Cecelia practices exclusively in Criminal law. Cecelia obtained her Bachelor of Laws (with Honours) in 2013. In 2014, Cecelia worked as a Depositions Clerk in the Magistrates Court. Cecelia completed her Post Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice at the Queensland University of Technology in 2015. Later that year, Cecelia was admitted as a Solicitor to the Supreme Court of Queensland.
Cecelia was invited to join Lilley Chambers in 2022. Cecelia predominately works in Brisbane; however, is also often found working out of our Ipswich Chambers.
Cecelia’s practice is predominantly criminal defence work. She is appointed to the Legal Aid Queensland Complex Case Panel. Cecelia is also often engaged to prosecute matters on behalf of State and Commonwealth Prosecuting Agencies.
Cecelia enjoys sharing her passion for trial advocacy by regularly teaching the Advocacy Course at the College of Law which she reports is an incredibly rewarding experience.
In 2019 Cecelia was called to the Private Bar. Since then, Cecelia has conducted a large number of trials in the District Court of Queensland. Trial advocacy is one of Cecelia’s passions and as such, her practice is predominately trial focussed.
Although Cecelia almost exclusively appears on criminal matters, she extends her practice to contested hearings in the Supreme Court pursuant to the Dangerous Prisoners (Sexual Offenders) Act 2003 and Domestic Violence Hearings. Cecelia has also appeared in the Court of Appeal in appeals to set aside convictions and sentences.
For a period of 12 months Cecelia was appointed as the Associate to His Honour Judge Paul Smith, the District Court Judge Administrator. Cecelia then commenced a further appointment working with Her Honour Judge Sarah Bradley in the Ipswich District Court in 2016.
Following her appointment with Judge Sarah Bradley, Cecelia worked at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (Ipswich Chambers). She first entered the Prosecutor’s Office as a clerk, and then, worked her way up to the position of Crown Prosecutor. Cecelia enjoyed her time working at the Prosecutor’s Office. During her time there, Cecelia was involved in the prosecution of serious criminal offences including drug trafficking, drug production, sexual offences, assaults and murder. She also was briefed to prosecute on appellate matters in the higher Courts.
