YUSUF FURGAN

Barrister-at-Law

Yusuf's principal area of practice is commercial law.  He appears in matters concerning business and contract disputes, insolvency, property, defamation, building and construction, estates and tax. Yusuf worked as a commercial litigator for six years before being called to the Bar in 2025.


Yusuf was recognised in the 2027 edition of Best Lawyers:  Ones to Watch in Australia in the practice area of litigation.

Qualifications

Yusuf holds a Master of Laws (Commercial) from the Queensland University of Technology, Bachelor or Laws from the University of Southern Queensland and Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Queensland University of Technology. 

Professional History

Before being called to the Bar, Yusuf worked in commercial litigation as a senior associate at a full-service law firm and special counsel at a boutique litigation firm.  During that time, Yusuf managed a team of litigators and appeared in a number of jurisdictions as a solicitor advocate.

  • Stimpson v Hewish [2026] QSC 8, appearing for the successful respondent in resisting an application for summary judgment of over $1 million.


  • Greer v Bandjalang Aboriginal Corporation Prescribed Body Corporate RNTBC (No 3) [2025] FCA 1674, application to stay an interlocutory injunction.


  • Greer v Bandjalang Aboriginal Corporation Prescribed Body Corporate RNTBC (No 2) [2025] FCA 1284, appearing for the successful applicant in obtaining an interlocutory injunction.


  • Greer v Bandjalang Aboriginal Corporation Prescribed Body Corporation RNTBC [2025] FCA 1217, dispensing with procedural requirements under the Federal Court Rules.


  • Yong Internationals Pty Ltd v GGCD Pty Ltd  [2025] QDC 213, application for judgment, strike-out, particulars, disclosure and security for costs.


  • Kelly Dimkovska v Splice Agency Pty Ltd [2025] FWC 3583, appearing for the successful applicant in resisting a jurisdictional objection including cross-examination of two witnesses.
